KWADUKUZA Athletic Club (KDAC) athletes made an impressive debut in the Bosveld 3-in-1 Marathon held at Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province on Saturday, 19 April.

Six KDAC athletes Leon Moodliar, Vijesh Mahadew, Dippy Moodley, Nishen Chetty, Indran Naidoo and Danny Sewmungal made the trip to the Limpopo Province on Friday afternoon to participate in their first ever 3-in-1 races held on a single day.

The six athletes enjoyed a comfortable start to the 42.2km race at 6am on Saturday morning, but barely two hours into the race, the hot, humid conditions started to takes its toll. They weathered the energy-sapping 42.2 km race finishing the event well with the six-hour cut off mark.

With less than two hours to relax those muscles, they were under starters orders at the start of the 21.1km race which got underway at 1.30pm.

The gruelling 21.1km race through rough terrain and dirt roads (forestry route) tested the resolve of the KDAC athletes. But, together as a team they crossed the finish time in sub three hours.

With just an hour’s rest and a vigorous rub, they braced them for the final race of the day, the 10km race which got underway at 5pm. They were exhausted, but over the moon after crossing the finish line before the two-hour cut-off time.

All six athletes were delighted with their performance in preparation for the 2015 Comrades Marathon to be held on 31 May from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

In other athletics news, Comrades Marathon runners who were unable to enter the 2015 Marathon during the official entry period now have an opportunity to still be part of the world’s biggest and oldest ultra-marathon through the substitution process.

The substitution rule applies allows for a runner who has not entered to take the place of an entrant who is withdrawing from the race. The substitution can only be done on a like for like basis (for example, South African for South African). The substitution process officially closes at mid-night on 21 April
