KWADUKUZA Volleyball Association (KDVA) will host the Ralph Reuben memorial knockout tournament commencing on Thursday, 4 June at the association courts.

Reuben, who died under tragic circumstances in June 2010, will always be remembered by family, friends and players of the association for his contagious smile. He had the ability of transforming a dull moment into an exciting and fun-filled one.

After his death, the Reuben family of Darnall decided to sponsor a tournament each year in his memory.

Isaac Abraham, KDVA president expressed his thanks to the Reuben family for their sponsorship.

Ten teams comprising Grove End, KSST, Randsons, Manor, Warriors Sport, Frendz, Cool Leaders, Sunbrook, MOB and Darnall United will be vying for honours in the 2015 showpiece.

Matches will be played on a knockout basis (comprising best of three sets) with the first two sets uncapped at 25 and the third and decisive set comprising of 15 uncapped points.

KDVA division one league outfit, Cool Leaders, are confident of upsetting Randsons of the Premier League in their first-round clash tomorrow (Thursday). Randsons have been blowing hot and cold since the start of the 2015 season and with their playmaker, Sandhir “Tinboy” Jugmohan injured, Cooks Moodley’s charges are sure to start marginal favourites for honours on Thursday night.

Victory for Cool Leaders will see them locking horns with arch-rivals Frendz. Cool Leaders will be hoping to avenge their first-round league defeat at the hands of Frendz thereby booking their place in the semis.

Reigning champions in the Ralph Reuben memorial KO Cup, Grove End have drawn a bye in the first round and will entertain Warriors Sport in the quarters. Grove End beat Warriors Sport narrowly (2-1) in the Caminamix Services-sponsored Easter KO Cup and need to up their tempo if they hope to secure a semi-final.

There will be no love lost in the Manor derby with Adhil Khan’s Manor charges strongly fancied to overcome MOB. Former league champions KSST, who suffered a shock 2-0 league defeat at the hands of Manor are favourites to return the favour in their quarter-final clash scheduled for 8pm on Thursday.

Darnall United started the 2015 season like a house on fire, but the “sugar-cane” lads were far from in their best form in recent weeks.

However, they will be hoping to restore the faith of their supporters when they do battle with Sunbrook in their quarter-final clash on 11 June.

The semis are scheduled to take place on 11 June with the play-offs for third spot and the final scheduled to take place on 18 June. Trophies (sponsored by the Reuben Family) will be awarded to the top three finishers
