HANSHI Sonny Pillay, president of Karate South Africa received a prestigious commendation award by the Ninfu Karate SA Association on the occasion of their 40th anniversary celebration.

South Coast karate stalwart sensei Daya Kisten presented the rare accolade to the karate maestro Hanshi Pillay, who also serves as the vice-president of the Commonwealth Karate Nations of the World.

Pillay, who was invited as the chief guest speaker, delivered the keynote address at the glittering 40th anniversary banquet held at the Enchanted Garden Conference Centre (based at the old Durban International Airport) last weekend.

In his address Pillay placed special emphasis on the role karate could play in eradicating drug and alcohol abuse amongst the youth of today.

“Karate is a magnificent vehicle to shape the youth of today so that they may grow into responsible adults with moderate habits,” said Pillay.

Director of Topline Manufacturers Collin Pillay (an elder statesman of karate in the South Coast District) paid glowing tribute to Hanshi Pillay on his outstanding contribution made to karate, not only in the country but throughout the globe.

Collin Pillay said: “Hanshi Sonny Pillay has been selfless in the promotion karate among karate enthusiasts of our rainbow nation and therefore our community salutes him on becoming a global leader in the sport”.

An ecstatic Hanshi Pillay concluded by saying: “I feel extremely delighted to have been part of this remarkable milestone achievement and my heartfelt congratulations is extended to the Ninfu Karate SA association, especially its founder member sensei Daya Kisten.”
