PLAY SPORT will host a double-wicket tournament for primary and secondary school pupils commencing on Thursday, 25 June at the Manor Primary School Ground at 1pm.

The registration of teams will take place from 1pm with the first match scheduled to get underway at 2.30pm.

The tournament is open to primary and secondary school pupils (born in 2002/2003). The entry fee is R30 per team.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will take place on Monday, 29 June at Manor Primary commencing at 10am.

All matches will be played on a knockout basis.

The duration of each game will be two overs per side. In the semi-finals and final the matches will be contested over four overs per side.

Trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up and medals to the losing semi-finalists. Special awards will be presented to the best bowler, fielder and batsman of the tournament.

CEO of Play Sport, Yashin Tewary said: “With the June exams expected to finish on Thursday, 25 June it is an ideal opportunity for pupils to use the tournament to de-stress.

“Furthermore, players will have an opportunity of keeping fit ahead of the Ilembe under 13 selections”.

Selection scout, Petros Buthelezi will be at the tournament and is expected to recruit selected players to attend the free coaching academy during the July vacation.

Tewary stressed the importance of doing well in the tournament in the hope of catching the eye of the selector.
