WHAT was meant to be a happy trip back home, ended in tragedy when an accident claimed the lives of a KwaDukuza youngster and her boyfriend on Saturday morning.
Sadhna Sriram, daughter of well known local paramedic Joy Sriram, and her boyfriend Sachin Govender of Verulam were killed in a crash on the N3, between Tugela Plaza and Bergvile Interchange, in the early hours of Saturday, morning July 8.

According to emergency services, a vehicle and a truck collided causing the truck to veer off the road down a steep embankment.
The jaws of life was used to cut free the two occupants, Sriram and Govender, from the motor vehicle, but nothing could be done to save them and they were declared dead on scene. N3TC, RTI, KZNEMS, Innovamed Private Ambulance Service, along with other services worked to treat the other two injured from the truck.

The truck had been transporting livestock and several cattle had to be put down by the state vet on scene.
RTI officials and N3TC had to work quickly, as some cattle had made their way out of the overturned truck and had wandered onto the highway.
A secondary collision was reported with slight injuries, when the stray cattle wandered into the highway.

Both Sriram and Govender were living and working in Gauteng and were headed home to KwaZulu-Natal when the accident occurred.

Condolences poured out to the bereaved family over social media with both friends and family describing Sriram as a genuinely good person.

“She held our hearts with her contagious smile and wonderful personality. Ever loving and caring to all,” said one friend.
The funeral service of Sriram took
place on Monday at her home in Glenhills and proceeded to the KwaDukuza Crematorium.
