ADVERTORIAL: Netcare Alberlito’s ophthalmologist giving “in-sight” on sight

NETCARE Alberlito Hospital held an eye awareness initiative for all retired teachers on 22 April.

Guest speaker at the event was experienced ophthalmologist Dr Yavische Reddy, who recently joined the Alberlito team.

Dr Reddy spoke to the members of LOTARE (retired teachers forum) on how to care for their eyes and what medication to take as well as what symptoms to look for with regards to the different conditions.

The campaign proved to be a successful one and useful to all LOTARE members.

José Nadesan, marketing officer of Netcare Alberlito Hospital, said: “We at Netcare Alberlito pride ourselves in caring for our community, we care for people.”

Dr Reddy said: “My vision is to see our patient’s vision improved.”

Mr Jay Singh, chairman of LOTARE, said the talk was beneficial to its members.

“The talk was beneficial in creating awareness as to how to care for their eyes and look for signs of diseases.” In the month of May Dr Reddy with be giving all retired teachers free eye screening to promote awareness.

Dr Reddy recently joined Netcare Alberlito Hospital as a full time ophthalmologist from McCord Provincial Eye Hospital.

Reddy brings nine years of experience in the field of ophthalmology and served as a specialist ophthalmologist in the last four years.

She has a keen interest in medical retina (especially diabetic eye disease) developed from running

the specialised medical retinal clinic at Albert Luthuli Hospital.

She has played an active role in her department in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Dr Reddy obtained her undergraduate degree from UCT in 2004, and her FC Ophth (SA) from

the CMSA in 2011. She also obtained the Part 1 medal in her training.

She was awarded the American Research Vision in Ophthalmology Travel fellowship for developing countries recently.

Dr Reddy is also dedicated to her family with a three-year-old daughter who “keeps her on her toes”.
