A 31-YEAR-OLD suspect from Sakhamkhanya appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court last week for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

According to KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, warrant officer Johannes Khoza, the suspect was arrested on Thursday, 28 January, following a tip-off from an informant.

It is believed an argument between the suspect and the deceased, Zanele Florence Nxumalo, resulted in her murder.

Allegedly, the suspect then burnt the deceased’s body and hid her remains in a container outside his house.
He later allegedly removed her remains and dumped them in a toilet, which the SAPS later found.

Nxumalo, who is from KwaNodunga, Ward 27, KwaDukuza, had been reported missing by the suspect sometime last year, Khoza added.

Meanwhile, her father Joseph, had asked that a missing person’s report be published in Stanger Weekly 11 November 2015, issue.

According to Joseph, at the time, Zanele was last seen by her family on Wednesday, 21 October, 2015.

He said she left home that day after saying she was going to visit her boyfriend at
Sakhamkhanya. Joseph said the following week, on Tuesday, 27 October, the boyfriend called asking to speak to Zanele, but was informed that she had not returned home, and as far as the family knew she was still with him.

However, the boyfriend told Zanele’s family that she left Sakhamkhanya on 23 October, 2015 and had said she would pass by the clinic before heading home.

On 29 October, 2015 Zanele’s father reported the matter to the KwaDukuza SAPS.

Khoza said the suspect is due back in court on Thursday, 4 February, and investigations are ongoing.
