THE African National Congress in the Greater KwaDukuza Region held a Special Regional Congress which was attended by the provincial interim leadership at the KwaDukuza Town Hall on Saturday, January 27.

The special seating served as a platform to report back on the 54th National Congress held in December and to bring clarity on the ANC NEC’s resolution to suspend the KZN provincial executive committee for which a provincial task team was instituted.

Among high ranking ANC officials were Carl Niehaus of the ANC MKVA, Mluleki Ndobe the former KZN provincial deputy secretary and the KwaDukuza regional leadership.

Addressing the ANC members at the packed KwaDukuza Town Hall the regional chairperson Ricado Mthembu said members should shy away from social media engagements which tend to paint a bad picture about the ANC.

“We should do away with factions who are dividing the party and also we must ask ourselves if these posts that are being posted and discussed on platforms such as Facebook are helping or destroying the ANC. So we urge our comrades in branches to speak and do things which are progressive. We will also be addressing branches as leadership on the outcomes of the national conference and what was discussed,” said Mthembu.

The ANC’s highest decision making body resolved in its first meeting that the provincial executive committee be dissolved ending months of infighting with regards to who is eligible to lead the party in the province.
There is currently a provincial task team which will be led by former MP Mike Mabuyakhulu as convener and Sihle Zikalala as co-ordinator.

Standing in for former chairperson Sihle Zikalala, member of the Provincial Task Team (PTT), Mluleki Ndobe delivered the keynote address and spoke briefly on the role that the PTT will play saying it will provide a clear path of what is expected from regions in preparation for the provincial congress.

“We are committed as KZN to the unity of the movement, we go to conferences with different views, but we always come out united and as such in the previous conference the ANC was the actual winner,” said Ndobe.

The ANC in the region stressed that the message conveyed was that of forging unity within the ANC as part of its broad programme to go back to its roots and connect with the people.
