ANC regional chair urges people to register to vote

THE Greater KwaDukuza ANC Region held a mini-rally at Isithebe, eMakhempini Sports Ground in Mandeni, on Sunday.

The rally was attended by provincial and regional leaders including ANC provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala and regional chairperson Ricardo Mthembu.

Mthembu said the mini-rally was a success as locals – young and old – came out by their numbers to show support for the organisation.

He said the organisation was able to clearly send out its message to the masses that they should defend democracy by registering to vote and casting their votes come local elections.

Secondly, he said, people were warned about individuals who sought to tarnish the image of the ANC and its national President Jacob Zuma and that they should not allow a situation where such individuals confuse them and deter them from their support of the ANC.

Mthembu said the attendees pledged their full support for the ANC.

With regards to the progress on the process of nominating candidates, he said 70% of the branches had successfully completed their nominations and that they had received reports that some processes had been disrupted.

Mthembu said he believes, however, that the disruptions would not persist and whatever issues which may have caused these disruptions would be resolved.

He said it is not easy to plan for avoiding such disruptions – in particular ones that become violent – adding that the organisation does not wish to involve the police in instances where meetings are interrupted but rather wished that members – and those attending meetings – could understand, respect and adhere to the organisation’s processes.

He said in some cases the meetings are interrupted by people who are not part of the ANC.

“We are the only party that introduces its candidates to the community and the community should appreciate that our organisation is transparent. People must not be violent when expressing their views but they must sincerely advise the organisation and share their views in a constructive manner,” said Mthembu.

Mthembu urged people to refrain from fighting over nominations for candidacy and councillorship as doing so tarnishes the dignity of the ANC.
