It is conveniently located within the KwaDukuza CBD precinct and offers serviced taxi drop off and pick up zones.

The first phase, a R1.5 billion precinct, is currently underway and includes a value centre, private hospital, hotel, and an office park.

The mall created 1 100 jobs during construction and will offer 260 permanent jobs.

Local suppliers and sub-construction businesses benefited over R90 million.

There have been 17 local suppliers to date, 22 local subcontractors appointed to date and 18 selected subcontractors to date (contract value is R90 million of which 100% unskilled labour comes from KwaDukuza).

The mall development employed 80% male labour and 20% female of which 60% were youth, 70% local employees (skilled and unskilled) in total.

This is the first major investment in over 40 years in KwaDukuza. The national tenants occupy 80% of the mall and anchor tenants include Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Clicks, PEP, Ackermans, Edgars, Truworths, all major banks, and a multitude of restaurants.

Reddy said the main aim was to serve the community of 300 000 residents of the Greater KwaDukuza region. The residents of KwaDukuza will also benefit from the R25 million new sporting facilities created by Reddy.

The facilities include upgrades to tennis courts, netball and basketball courts, volleyball courts, upgraded cricket and football fields as well as upgrades to the swimming pool. -Supplied
