THE community of Madundube in KwaDukuza ward 27 held their inaugural Freedom Day celebrations at the Madundube Sport Field on Friday, April 27.

The event was organised by the branch ANC and was graced by KwaDukuza council speaker Phumlile Zulu, ANCYL regional secretary Musa Zondi, the incoming deputy chairperson of the region Khonza Ngidi and branch leadership of the youth.

The theme of the day was “Fighting Crime Through Sport” and activities of the day included a soccer tournament and entertainment.

KDM speaker Zulu addressed those in attendance and stressed that the community must speak and fight against crime and the scourge of drug use.

“We must speak in one voice as the community and work hand in hand with law enforcement and report people who are wrongdoers as the level of substance abuse and alcohol consumption is high in the area,” said Zulu. The keynote address was delivered by Zondi and he expressed that as the youth they should be thankful for the efforts and sacrifices of those who fought against the apartheid regime as the country is now free and also that the ANC is the only movement that liberated the people of this country.

The Madundube ANC branch also pronounced their preferred top six in the upcoming regional conference. They are backing Ricardo Mthembu as regional chairperson, Khonza Ngidi as the deputy, Musa Zondi the secretary, Matozi Khuzwayo-Dlamini as the deputy secretary and Thulani Ntuli as treasurer.
