Basa to host family day

2018-05-30 06:00

BAPTIST Association of South Africa (Basa) will host a family day on June 16 at the Stanger Manor Primary School ground.

The Sunday school and youth department will join forces for the first time in the history of Basa to incorporate all churches in KwaDukuza (irrespective of affiliation) and Basaland (throughout KwaZulu-Natal) in celebrating Youth Day on June 16.

The activities planned for the day will not only focus on the Sunday school children and youth, but will also cater for adults and senior citizens.

Basa youth leader Isaac Abraham said: “With June 16 falling on the eve of Father’s Day, we have decided to incorporate men and women (young and old) into the programme.

“All senior citizens will be treated to a free cup of tea or coffee and a doughnut.”

A bumper five-kilometre fun run and walk is planned to start at 8 am on June 16.

The race or walk will start at the Manor Primary School ground in Marigold Street, heading left into Manor Drive and left into Doesburg Road (immediately after the Stanger Manor Baptist Church), before joining Canna Road and back again into Marigold Road (finishing at the school ground).

The entry fee for the fun run and walk is R10 for children and adults.

Medals will be awarded to all the participants and trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in the primary, secondary and adult male and female categories.

There will be a special prize for the first senior citizen (male and female).

Immediately after the fun run there will be a full-scale athletics programme for the different age categories — six to seven years, eight to nine years, 10 to 11 years, 12 to 13 years, 14 to 18 years, adults, fathers and mothers, a grandfathers and grandmothers walking race and a musical cushion.

The highlight of the athletics programme will be a relay contest in each of the age categories and the ever popular tug-o-war for men and women.

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the athletics events.

Church leaders are encouraged to get their teams ready for the athletics. Participation in all athletics events will be free of charge.

Immediately after the athletics programme there will be a five-a-side soccer tournament, a thunee competition and a six-a-side cricket competition.

A variety of refreshments will be on sale at nominal prices, including breyani, samoosas, hot dogs, bunny chows and burgers.

No fee will be levied upon any church or participant in the sporting events.

Church leaders interested in participating on June 16 are encouraged to attend a meeting on May 28 at the Saints Church (opposite the R.A. Moodley Homes hall) at 6 pm.
