THE iLembe District Municipality has achieved the Best Integrated Development Plan (IDP) award for the 2016/2017 financial year for a seventh consecutive year.

They received the award at the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Back to Basics launch on Friday at the Royal Show Grounds in Pietermaritzburg. Mayor Siduduzo Gumede accepted the awards on behalf of council.

Back to Basic, launched in February 2015, is a plan of action to ensure a focused and strengthened local government by getting the basics right and together with other spheres of government, providing basic services efficiently and effectively in a caring manner.

iLembe also walked away with an award for good governance and public participation along with five other municipalities in KZN.

The launch, organised by the KZN Department of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, saw all district and local municipalities attending.
The provincial department recognised the “excellent work” of planners through the awards ceremony for municipalities that have obtained the most credible IDPs for the 2016/2017 financial year. The district municipality also received the best performing development planning shared services award.

Before the presentation, all district mayors, SALGA KZN chairperson ME Ndobe and Cogta MECNomusa Dube-Ncube signed a memorandum of understanding recommitting to implement the Back to Basics principles.
