TIA Moonsamy began her karate journey in 2008.
Being a passive child, her parents Derek and Mogie were looking to develop her into a bold and confident individual.
Eight years later, at age 15, Tia graded to her 1st Dan Black belt overseas.
Along with this prestigious accolade, Tia was also placed third in the Karate South Africa open tournament and has also received many podium positions at tournaments over the years.
She was placed first in the eThekwini regional for kumite and second for kata this year.
She also represented the iLembe District at the Salga Games and was placed first in her division.

Her academic life is equally productive and eventful as she stands amongst the top tiers in her grade.
“Karate has taught me time management skills and developed me into a focused and determined individual,” she said.

Tia thanks her parents, sisters Trevina and Pritika, Sensei, friends and family for all their support over the years.
