Can brain gym overcome learning problems?

2018-07-04 06:01

ATTENTION deficit disorder is a chronic condition stemming from childhood and impacts negatively on one’s emotional state, behavioural patterns and cognitive abilities.

The symptoms that people experience include difficulty paying attention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness, which contribute to low self-esteem.

Research has been conducted on the connection between emotional stress (such as anxiety and depression) and learning problems.

If a child feels unsafe and insecure, this creates emotional stress because it causes the cell receptors in the brain to shut down. This serves as a barrier to learning.

The frontal lobe cortex, which is responsible for higher-order thinking skills is switched off during stress. The flight and fight mode is triggered in the brain stem which causes an imbalance in the right and left hemispheres of the brain, thereby greatly affecting one’s learning potential.

Medical practitioners prescribe drug therapy for those diagnosed with ADD, but this is just a temporary solution with many negative side effects such as weight loss, headaches and insomnia.

Brain Gym and Educational Kinesiology assists pupils naturally in overcoming learning problems, including ADD and ADHD, and aims at improving concentration, focus and memory skills. Pupils are more productive and efficient in their learning abilities and social skills because of the balance achieved between the logic and gestalt brain, promoting optimal whole-brain functioning.
