ZAMANI Ndlangathi (25), who was arrested for being an accomplice in the murder of Zakhele Medical Gumbi, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the crime.

Ndlangathi was sentenced on 15 June after he pleaded guilty to murder. His co-accused Mbeko Gumbi (20), the son of the deceased, remains in custody and is due back in court on 11 July.

The two accused – who are reportedly friends – allegedly murdered Zakhele on 29 May in the Thembeni area, in KwaDukuza.

According to a source, the deceased was with his two sons, the accused and a younger one aged 10, at the time of the incident and that the father and the suspect “had a sour relationship”.
