THE KwaDukuza Municipality LED unit in partnership with the Sector for Economic Development Agency (SEDA) and the KZN Economic Department have fulfilled the promise of offering support to KwaDukuza small business by donating equipment to them on Thursday, June 14.

The programme is aimed at developing small business in KwaDukuza and promotes entrepreneurship.

Each recipient was given equipment of not more than R9 000 which will improve their working conditions.

Addressing the business operators, representing SEDA Dennis Ndlovu, said they are happy to extend a helping hand to small businesses.

“We are here to handover equipment which will help your businesses and improve the working conditions you operate under and we hope you will handle this equipment with care and by that we hope your business will grow because small businesses are the drivers of the community,” said Ndlovu.

The equipment ranged from fridges, tables, chairs and gazebos amongst others and recipient were all KDM permit holders.

Attending the event was mayor Ricardo Mthembu along with his deputy Dolly Govender and council speaker Phumlile Zulu.

Speaking at the handover Mthembu said it is a good initiative from the agency SEDA and KZN government.

“We would like to congratulate you as the beneficiaries of such a initiative of which KDM played a big role along with the LED unit which is committed to help local small business to grow. We want to encourage established business to support small operators. You should advertise and be proud of your business,” said Mthembu.

Mthembu also alluded that KDM is on a campaign to bring back township economy as part of the municipality’s LED projects.

“As a caring government our implementation of this programme was to assist and intensify small businesses so that they are able to stand on their own and strengthen the local economy. I therefore encourage people to buy from you our local enterprises, it is a stance that will strengthen our economy and I also want to encourage the enterprises to assist us as government to report crimes that occur in the areas where you operate, such as meter tempering, etc,” he added.
