THE iLembe District Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, hosted a sporting event between AmaKhosi within the iLembe District and the iLembe family of municipalities councillors on Friday.

The main objectives of the sports day was to enhance sound working relations with one another, to assist and support one another in the execution of leadership roles and responsibilities in relation to service delivery, and to develop agreed communication channels for information sharing, co-ordination, and consultation.

Sporting codes included aerobics, chess, mlabalaba, Induku, tug-o-war, and soccer.

A message of support was delivered by the mayor of iLembe District Municipality Siduduzo Gumede, who spoke about cooperation between community structures in order to bring harmony in society.

“These games are not for having fun but to strategise in over-coming all social-ills in our communities. This event is for us community leaders to work together, irrespective of political parties, and strive to bring better life for all citizenry in iLembe District,” said Gumede.
