Dead baby found

A passerby found the dead body of a baby believed to be hours-old on Saturday morning in King Shaka Street and immediately alerted local police.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said the baby was found at around 11am inside a black bin bag.

“The baby was wrapped in floral material,” she said, “A case of concealment of birth is being investigated by KwaDukuza SAPS. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.”

According to local police, a paramedic called to the scene stated that the baby, a female, was most likely born earlier that day.

KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, warrant officer Johannes Khoza urges anyone with information relating to the matter to come forward.

“As the police, we appeal to anyone with information or who knows of someone who was pregnant and was due or recently gave birth but their child has suspiciously disappeared to notify the police,” he said.

Crash on R102

A truck and a light motor vehicle collided on the R102 near Compensation on Sunday evening, at around 7pm, killing two male occupants of the light motor vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the light motor vehicle died on impact.

Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue said the KwaDukuza fire department had to use the jaws of life to extricate the bodies of the deceased from the wreckage.
