STUDENTS of the Upper North Coast Eisteddfod Movement excelled at the National Children’s Eisteddfod, hosted by the South African Tamil Federation recently.

The participants from KwaDukuza represented KwaZulu-Natal at the event at the Arena Park Regional Hall in Chatsworth.

Velona Mohanlall placed third with gold in the language prose category while in the music category Kovendrie Pillay placed first with gold.

Varesha Murugan placed first with gold for her South Indian Village Dance solo and also boasted the highest scores on the day in the dance category.

In the South Indian Village Dance duet, Tashvir Autar and Shristi Naidoo placed first with gold.

The movements group Kollatum and the group bhajan performances both placed second with gold.

The movements’ heads encouraged more young people to become involved in cultural activities and invited children to join the movement.
