THE Quartz Sportsbar drew large crowds to witness the Trophy Engravers League title chase.

Darnall United and Singh’s Fireworks Darts Club were the two main challengers for the title.

The Darnall team took on newcomers Red Gold KZN Darts Club who beat Dhan’s Auto a fortnight ago. The Darnall United captain Vinesh Geanbally set up a strong lineup to take on the Red Gold boys.

In the team game (1001) the sugar boys drew first blood to win the opening set to lead 1-0.

The second set saw the Red Gold boys put up a fight to win and level the scores 1-1.

The third set was a humdinger as Darnall United put up a top performance with high tallies and snatched the game to take the lead 2-1.

In the doubles game (701) Vinesh and Jerry teamed up to take on Sashen and Asthon, this was short lived as Vinesh and Jerry outplayed their opponents to win the opening set to make the scores 3-1. In the second set Kevin Gounden and Bradley Naidoo of Red Gold took on Jerry and Preolin, the Red Gold boys put up a brave fight and won the game to take the scores to 3-2.

With four singles game (501) to go, this was a uphill to separate the men from the boys.

In the opening game Vinesh beat Sashen to take the scores to 4-2 in favour of the sugar boys.

Red Gold had to dig deep to win the next three games if they wanted to seek victory.

The Darnall United team stuck to their game plan and won all three games to snatch victory and win 7-2 on the night to claim the Trophy Engravers League title.

In the other, game newcomers to the Darts arena Quartz Darts Club beat Singh’s Fireworks Darts Club 5-4 in close match.

Singh’s Darts Club had to settle for the runners up position. Kevin Gounden notched up his “171” which will automatically enter him in the “180” cup to be played later in the year. Tonight (Wednesday) the association will host a singles tournament which is sponsored by Mistique Fruit & Veg.
