THE KwaDukuza Darts Association (KDDA) held a mixed-doubles tournament last Wednesday at the Quartz.

The top half of the draw saw a Vinesh Geanbally and Paddy Padayachee combination defeat Jerry Arunachellum and Ajen Singh 2-0.

Terrence Subban and Vasa Rungasamy beat Navern Coopsamy and Kyle Pillay 2-0 to advance into the semis. The bottom half of the draw saw Sanjay Singh and Jullian Pillay beat Nine Pillay and Jodie Naidoo in a nail-biting 2-1 game.

Geanbally notched up (180) a triple 20 which will entitle him to be entered in the 180 Cup to be held later in the year.

In the first semi’s Geanbally and Padayachee drew first blood to the first set.

Subban and Rungasamy put up a brave fight to level the scores 1-1.

Geanbally and Padayachee’s combination proved too strong and they won the third set outright to advance into the final.

In the bottom half, Singh and Pillay had to face the more fancied pair of Charlie Pillay and Meersingh Soobram. The first set saw Pillay and Soobram start like house on fire and win the first set but this was short-lived as Singh and Pillay came back fighting to level the scores 1-1.

In the third set, Singh, who made a return to the arena, proved to be strong and played top darts and beat Pillay and Soobram to advance into the final. The final was a real humdinger and the supporters chose to back their team-mates on either side.

The first set saw Geanbally and Padayachee score high tallies and leave Singh and Pillay way back to win the first set.

However, Singh and Pillay put up a hard fight and levelled the scores to make it 1-1. In the final set, Geanbally and Padayachee stood their ground and left their opponents flat-footed to clinch the Chandini Travel & Tours Sponsored Mixed Double Tournament.

Tonight (Wednesday) the association will hold it first council meeting at 7 pm, thereafter a team double game will be played.
