DAWNHEIGHTS Cricket Club (DCC) took on Chatsworth Sporting at the Gledhow pitch on November 18 in a Challenge League game. Chatsworth won the toss and elected to bat. A cautious and steady start by the opening pair put on a 50 run opening partnership. The opening bowlers bowled well with no reward with a few good shots sprinkled in. Change bowler Ishan Kalia was brought into the attack and broke the partnership. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Kalia finishing with two scalps. Part time bowler A Dlamini, the stand out bowler, dutifully brought the innings to a close, taking his fourth scalp thereby ensuring DCC were to chase 142 to win. DCC openers started cautiously. Youngster Suveer Hanuman batted well and was unluckily run out with the score at 60/3. Raj Verma then joined Dlamini and batted positively, putting bad balls away with ease. Dlamini fell on 38 and that brought Kalia to the crease. Verma then stamped his authority on the game together with Kalia (25*) and, with a few runs to go, brought up his graceful, well-timed half century. The winning runs were left to Kalia, giving DCC a win by seven wickets.
