THRIVING KwaDukuza entrepreneur and digital foodie Mbali Isabell Khumalo is taking the catering field by storm.

The 23-year-old Stanger Manor resident had an aspiration of becoming an established brand in the events planning and catering business and today she serves as an inspiration to all young women who want to venture into business.

Khumalo says that her popular catering business MealsWithMbali was inspired by her love for cooking, which started at a young age.

“From the age of eight, I’ve always loved the feel of being in a kitchen, helping mom with meal preps or baking treats and dessert for my family. As I got older, I found that cooking and baking for me is quite therapeutic and my passion for food grew more and more over the years.

“Food photography played a major role. I would often post pictures of my dinner or bakes on my social media accounts [Facebook and Instagram] and would find that each time I did, family and friends would either ask to be invited for dinner with me or ask me for the recipes for the meals I’d make. Thereafter, I started blogging more on recipes that I loved, which are mainly traditional cuisine recipes developed over time by me and my mom,” said Khumalo.

Khumalo hopes to redefine the image of young black women in business as women still face challenges in the workplace.

As a woman she feels that government should do more in prioritising females and give much needed support in terms of funding.

“Understanding that the catering business is a competitive one, more especially for a young person like myself, I instantly knew that I’d have to offer a service that hasn’t been offered before. I took the very same factor of being young and built a following of other digital foodies and applied it in everything that my company stood for,” she added.

Currently she is working on LunchBox MealswithMbali which caters for working people who often have very little time to make meals for work.
