FOUR pupils from the iLembe District were selected to represent the province in Volleyball at the South African School Sports Championships – Winter Games which were held from 9 to 14 July in Durban.

Glenhills Secondary School pupil Treval Premlall and Chakaskraal Secondary School pupil Brendon Myeza were selected into the under 17 male team.

Maphumulo Secondary School pupil Nolwazi Xulu was selected into the under 17 female side while Stanger Secondary School’s Asanda ‘Baby’ Buthelezi was chosen to play in the under 15 team.

THE KZN under 17 male side defeated Limpopo province with a straight two-set win 17 – 25 and 22- 25. KZN’s second game saw the province take on Mpumalanga and managing to claim another victory.

In their third game, KZN thwarted the previous year’s champions Gauteng province 7 – 25 and 21 – 25 which saw the winners advance to the semi-finals where they met with Free State.

The semi-finals ended with three sets with a win for team KZN taking them to the finals with Western Cape.

The KZN side came out victorious in the finals claiming the under 17 Volleyball Championship of South Africa for 2016.

Treval Premlall’s vigour, forcefulness, and competitiveness awarded him the best attacker for the under 27 category.

Throughout the tournament he displayed an aggressive urge to win and was focused, driving his team o an overall victory.

The South African School Sports Championships – Winter Games were hosted by the department of Sports and Recreation.
