FAMOUSLY known as ‘Mastermind’, Nkazimulo Mbambo is an 18-year-old mechanic from Mandeni who dreams of studying engineering and making history one day by bringing to fruition his own invention.

Determined to succeed, Mbambo has started work on his ultimate dreams by building remote controlled and electronic models of an aeroplane, solar system and a water vessel.

“My dream is to study flight engineering,” a soft spoken Mbambo said.

He matriculated last year, but due to a lack of funds he could not further his studies and has been working with his uncles as a mechanic – fixing cars for a living and saving money for tuition fees.

“I fix cars at the moment, my uncles taught me how to fix cars, I started out by helping them,” he said.

He said throughout his high school career at Udumo in Mandeni, his physics teachers would ask him to build models to be used for demonstrations.

“I started building models like these ones in 2011, and teachers, especially in the physics class, would beg me to build models,” he said.

Using mostly waste material, Mbambo has built a model of the Earth – which spins when plugged to an electric socket, a remote controlled aeroplane which took Mbambo three months to complete, however, it is short a few more parts for it to take off, he said, and a water vessel which took him a month.

Flipping through his file which contains sketches of cars, aeroplanes and some of his original ideas, as well as photocopies of articles about inventors and their inventions, Mbambo said his biggest dream is to make history.

“I want to be remembered for my inventions. One day I will build something that has never existed before. I want to make history,” he said.
