Huge incentives for fun run

WEEKLY REPORTER

FABULOUS prizes are up for grabs in the Baptist Association of South Africa (Basa) fun run to be held at the Stanger Manor Primary School on June 16.

Organisers are expecting more than 200 runners and walkers to attend on Youth Day at 8 am. The race starts outside the Manor Primary School gates in Marigold Street, heading south and into Manor Drive for more than a kilometre before turning left (past Stanger Manor Baptist) into the Doesburg Road before joining Canna Road at the top and finally left at Marigold and into the school.

Two fully stocked stations en route (providing water, juice, fruit and chocolates) will ensure that walkers and runners remain hydrated throughout the five-kilometre run and walk. Every finisher will receive a commemorative medal.

The top three finishers in the primary and secondary school category (males and females) will receive trophies for their effort. The first three male and female adults will receive bumper hamper bags. Special prizes will be awarded to the oldest male and female senior citizen to finish the five-kilometre race and walk. The entry fee is R10 for adults and children. Tickets are at Manor Primary School and local primary schools, including Dawnview and Glenhills primary schools.

Immediately after the fun run, local churches will lock horns on the sporting arena. An entertaining athletics programme catering for children in the primary and secondary school, young adults, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, has been organised.

Items include sprint races (60 m and 100 m), tyre races, egg and spoon, obstacle races, bun-eating and musical cushion and walking races for the mothers, fathers and grandparents. The top three finishers in each of the races will receive medals. Participation in the athletics programme is free.

There will be a six-a-side cricket tournament (five males and one female), volleyball tournament (four males and two females), thunee and a five-a-side soccer tournament.

Participation in the games is free and trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up. There will also be a kiddies baking competition and an exciting roti making competition for the women (who must take their own rolling pins).
