ILEMBE Cricket Union was the toast of KZN Cricket at a glittering star studded event held at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Friday, 6 May 2016. This year was indeed special for Ilembe Cricket because Dawnheights Cricket Club and Ilembe Cricket Club brought honour to the region by capturing the KZN Castle Challenge League Stream two and the coveted Castle Challenge League 20 20 Knock Out respectively.

Dawnheights Cricket Club dominated the Castle Challenge League Stream 2 with the aid of their hard hitting Indian National super star Sagar Arora who took home the batting award for the most number of runs scored in the league.

Ilembe Cricket Club had a very successful season capturing the prized Castle Challenge League 20/20 Knock Out Cup and finishing second in the Castle Challenge Stream 1.
Abdulla Mahomed who currently plays for Ilembe was awarded the KZN Under 17 Rural Player of the season.
He was selected along with Adesh Bageloo to represent the South African under17 Rural Team.

Premier league Champions, Crusaders Cricket Club dominated the awards in Castle Premier League with their players scooping both the batting and bowling awards as well as the 2016 presidential award for being the first non tertiary club to win the National Club Championship.

In other news, this weekend’s Warriors Knock Out was dominated by rain with most of the teams advancing with the toss of a coin.
Manor B and Ashrafia the only teams to have played a match which saw Ashrafia advancing through to the next round.
