Iskon 50th anniversary celebrated at Krishna Janmasthami festival

ISKON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) is celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year and as part of these celebrations, Iskcon KwaDukuza will be hosting a grand Krishna Janmasthami festival on Saturday, 20 August commencing at 5.30pm at the Sanathan Mundal Temple Hall in Stanger Heights.
The festival has an exciting line up of bhajans, kirtans, aarti, dances, discourse as well as a sumptuous dinner.
Bhajan maestro Keeran Eshwarlall and his troupe will be entertaining the guests to a selection of bhajans.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Sri Srimad Subhaga Swami Maharaj, who is visiting South Africa for the first time.
Born in Kolkata, Subhaga Swami Maharaj spent most of his early life in Kolkata and completed his college education at the Scottish Churches College in Calcutta.
In 1965 he left to study engineering in London.

While studying there he was introduced to Krishna Consciousness and soon joined the London temple in its early days.

From the first meeting with Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (founder of Iskcon), he was engaged in Srila Prabhupada’s personal service specifically, under the direct 9999 instruction from Srila Prabhupada, he translated different scriptures from Sanskrit and Bengali to English and also from English to Bengali.
Subhaga Swami Maharaj has been based in Sridham Mayapur for the last 40 years.

He is one of the present gurus and is prominent among the senior leaders of Iskon preaching worldwide. At the age of 76, Subhaga Swami Maharaj is currently travelling to 50 Iskon centres worldwide on the occasion of Iskon's 50th anniversary.
