KWADUKUZA Municipality held a one day Faith-Based Organisation Summit on Tuesday, June 7, which proved to be a success. The summit saw religious leaders deliberate on various topics up for discussion.

Unity proved to be the common cause for discussion for the summit, with leaders agreeing that much more can be done to uplift people’s lives in KwaDukuza. These sentiments were echoed by guest speaker at the summit, chief whip of council, Dumisani Ndimande.

Religious leaders sought to have a more direct involvement in municipal structures; having a Religious Desk in the municipality was one of the suggestions.

The desk would assist in creating a better flow of information to the religious sector with issues pertaining to service delivery. Thus, if residents take to the streets to demonstrate, religious leaders can be a voice of reason and ease tensions if the situation calls for it.

Religious leaders affirmed their support and commitment to carry on fighting the scourge of social ills that affect their respective communities by working together with the municipality and different stakeholders to enhance community development through social cohesion, unity, moral regeneration, local economic development and eradicate gender based violence.

In absentia, Mayor of KwaDukuza Ricardo Mthembu expressed joy that the summit was successful and has promised that he will see to the resolutions of the summit.

“KwaDukuza Municipality remains committed to working with all sectors of society.

“Our relationship with faith-based organisations is bearing fruit, we are seeing it happen. Most of the social ills that were engulfing our town have decreased.

“Indeed, working together we can do more,” said Mthembu.
