KWADUKUZA Municipality employees embarked on a go slow on Thursday demanding the removal of certain officials who are allegedly implicated in corrupt activities and are under an internal forensic investigation by the municipality.

A number of issues were raised by employees, who were in SAMWU union colours, marching from the municipal Lavorpierre building to the council chambers in the CBD.

One of the concerns raised was the issue of maladministration where some officials were implicated in signing off on an unlawful contract for office machines without the consent of the municipal manager.
The first march by the disgruntled workers was addressed by the municipal manager Nhlanhla Mdakane who promised that the issue will be discussed at the full council meeting the following day and they will be notified on the outcome of that meeting.

KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu then addressed the striking workers outside the council chambers after the meeting and said that the matter is under internal forensic investigation and a report will be made available within 30 days.

“The matter was brought to the attention of the municipal manager and he conducted an investigation according to the law to find out if there was any wrong doing and presented a report to council. There will be action taken for those officials who are implicated,” said Mthembu.

The municipality could neither confirm nor deny whether the said officials under investigating have been suspended.
