THE KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) held the annual Staff Excellence Awards which recognises a selected number of exceptional staff and administration employees at the KwaDukuza Town Hall on Thursday, June 28.

Awardees were honoured at the ceremony with a certificate and a trophy.

Additionally, the long service and academic excellence awards are conferred at this event.

The event was attended by mayor of the KwaDukuza Municipality Ricardo Mthembu, members of the executive council, councillors as well as KDM staff and 220 employees were recognised.

Individual and teams were recognised for “above and beyond” contributions and achievements that have directly impacted the municipality, driven the municipality towards its strategic goals, helped the community, and/or positively influenced others.

Speaking at the at the event Mthembu expressed his gratefulness for the effort put in by the staff to ensure that municipal work continues in the midst of many challenges they encounter and the pressure they find themselves in.

“It is a pleasure and honour for me to address you today, because you are the people who make us passionate to say, we are committed to service delivery.

“You have raised the bar in many ways in terms of growth, value and contributions towards advancing the service delivery of our local government.

“Also, I am proud to hand over the long service awards to the employees who dedicated the entire life to this council. Some of these stalwarts have served for more than 30 years and these employees are the ones who still have a desire to elevate this municipality in terms of service delivery,” he said.

“As council, we encourage all employees of this municipality, the KwaDukuza Municipality, to put more effort to accelerate service delivery and we want to put it on record that from now onwards we will be applying serious consequence management where work is not done accordingly.

“As I close, please know that the reason we have decided to carry out this annual exercise to recognise you is because we value our administrators and understand that the future of this institution rests not in the political will alone, but also in your hands - the people who are at the coalface of service delivery,” said Mthembu.
