THE Kranskop Regional Court sentenced Thembinkosi Ngubane (69) to life imprisonment for rape on October 29.

In June 2016, the then 19-year-old victim was returning from work, accompanied by her colleague, when she was attacked by Ngubane.

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane: “While she was walking with her colleague in the Maliyavuza area, they were approached by the accused who attempted to sweet-talk her.

“When she spurned his attempts, the accused attacked her and dragged her into nearby bushes where he raped her.

“The victim managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to Kranskop SAPS.

“The docket was transferred to the Greytown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.”

Zwane said Ngubane was arrested swiftly and he made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced accordingly.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and his name will be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register.
