Local mall development on track

2018-08-08 06:00

KWADUKUZA Mall developers Edison Property Group, together with main contractors Enza Construction and officials from KwaDukuza Municipality, conducted a site inspection at the R460 million mall development on Tuesday, July 24.

The site visit was led by Edison chairman Vivian Reddy along with KDM mayor Ricardo Mthembu.

Officials were taken on a tour in and around the construction site of the mall, which is scheduled to open doors on September 27.

The mall is the first phase of the project which, to date, has created 1 330 direct and indirect jobs and is expected to create 250 permanent jobs for local people once completed.

Reddy said the R460 million investment has contributed about R60 million to the iLembe economy, with 20 local contractors and suppliers benefitting.

“We would like to say thanks for the co-operation from the KwaDukuza Municipality and stakeholders involved. This is a first of its kind project for KwaDukuza and it has taken us 12 months to complete and we are confident we will be ready in six weeks time,” said Reddy.

Mthembu reiterated that if it were not for the co-operation of all the political parties in council the project would have been a failure.

“I would like to commend and thank all those involved with their commitment and support, we will continue to attract such investment to our town and I must emphasise that the employment process must be done accordingly so as to avoid protests from the community who will feel hard done by us,” said Mthembu.

The mall is now 100% rented out and consists of 130 stores 40 of which is locally owned.

Anchor tenants Checkers, Woolworths and Pick n’ Pay are 85% ready for the September 27 opening.
