THE KwaDukuza community is mourning the death of 16-year-old Uzair Aslam Manjra - son of local businessman Aslam Manjra - who was killed in an accident last week.

The Crawford College North Coast pupil together with two friends were travelling in a Renault Clio which allegedly collided head-on with a Hyundai H1 mini-van at the intersection of the Ruth First Freeway and Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road.

Uzair who was in the front passenger seat and the driver, who has not been named, were trapped in the vehicle and paramedics and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free them.

The third occupant was ejected from the car on impact and suffered a broken leg. All examinations at Crawford College on Thursday were postponed.

According to Netcare 911 spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe two occupants of the Hyundai H1 sustained moderate injuries.

“In the Renault Clio, the driver and the front-seat passenger were both trapped - paramedics had to use the jaws of life to extricate the two out of the wreckage. Unfortunately, the front-seat passenger succumbed to his injuries on scene - paramedics worked tirelessly to resuscitate the man, but he was declared dead on scene.”

Provincial SAPS spokeswoman Captain Nqobile Gwala, said the exact cause of the accident is currently unclear and they are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
