Lower Tugela Maths Association to honour top achievers

2018-11-14 06:02

THE Lower Tugela Maths Association (LTMA) will honour the top primary schools mathematics achievers at a glittering awards presentation ceremony scheduled for November 14 at the KwaDukuza Town Hall commencing at 6 pm.

President of LTMA, Isaac Abraham, said: “Last term, almost 1 500 pupils representing more than 20 schools participated in round one of the Maths Relay/Challenge.

“The top achievers in round one advanced to the second round of the competition held at ZMS, Manor Primary, Dawnview, Stanger Heights and KwaDukuza primary schools last month under the supervision of external moderators to ensure the competition was free and fair.

“The top 20 pupils in each grade (grades three to seven) will be announced at the awards presentation ceremony on Wednesday.”

Pupils who participated in round two of the Maths Relay/Challenge and their parents are waiting with bated breath for the announcement of the results.

Abraham urged all pupils to be seated between 5 pm and 5.30 pm at the KwaDukuza Town Hall so that the function can start promptly at 6 pm.

During the course of the year, LTMA hosted the Math-a-Move and Top 20 Mathematics games at Stanger Heights Primary School.

The top three pupils (from grades four to seven) at each of the games will also be honoured at next week’s maths awards ceremony.

Based on the performance in the Math-a-Move, Top 20 Competition and Maths Relay/Challenge, the top three schools will be adjudicated and floating trophies will be awarded to the schools in recognition of their outstanding results and for promoting maths at their respective schools.
