MBEKO Gumbi (20) was arrested for allegedly murdering his father Zakhele Medical Gumbi (50), according to KZN SAPS spokesperson, Major Shooz Magudulela.

Mbeko and his suspected accomplice Zamani Mdlangathi (25) appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday, 8 June and “they were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on 21 June,” said Magudulela.

He added that the two suspects are friends.

He said the deceased was found inside his bedroom in Thembeni on Sunday, 29 May 2016.

“The incident occurred at about 3am. The victim had stab wounds and his throat was cut,” he said.

According to a source, the deceased was almost decapitated. The source said the deceased was with his two sons, Mbeko and a younger one aged 10, at the time of the incident and that the father and the suspect – Mbeko – “had a sour relationship”.

“The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Magudulela.
