Marshmallow Football Club junior U9, U11 and U13 teams set out to Verulam recently for their second tournament for this year where almost 198 children took part.

This past Sunday Marshmallow Football Club U17 and open divisions embarked on a journey to Pietermaritzburg for their first ever tournament as a squad, playing teams from Pietermaritzburg.

All three teams performed satisfactorily for the tournament considering it was their first outing.

Four weeks ago Marshmallow FC also took their over 35 squad to Pietermaritzburg for a social friendly and took on teams from all across KZN.

Ismail Gori, director, manager and coach of Marshmallow FC who has been training children for the past 15 years, said his reason for taking the teams out of the area is the juniors and seniors get limited game time in small towns. “They do not get any exposure and their talents are not acknowledge and it is because of this unfortunate reasoning we decided to travel out of town. The players also gain experience and exposure and they learn how to love each other as team mates and respect their opposition which in turn creates unity between towns clubs and the youth.”

He thanked all parents and supporters of the academy for their support.

According to Gori the vision of Marshmallow Football Academy is to build a dynamic nation through sport within the community.

“By doing so its creates brotherhood, unity, love, respect, good sportsmanship, long lasting friendship and self-discipline among our contestants as well as adults and leaders.”

Children of all age groups from junior U7 to senior O35 who wish to join into the academy can contact

Ismail Gori on 072 443 5910 for more information.
