Another municipal worker who works in the finance department as a meter reader, Xolani Mkhize said he felt abused when he was bitten by a dog last year at one residence in Salt Rock.

"I went to a residence on Club Road to fulfill my duties as a meter reader. When I entered at the gate, I met with a lady and when I asked to come in to read the meter she welcomed me in. I then asked her whether her dogs would bite me and she said the dogs are fine, to quote her exact words," said Mkhize.

He said he had taken a few steps into the yard when the dog started barking at him.

"I then asked her whether I should be worried now that the dog is barking but she said the dog is fine," he said.

He said soon after that the dog bit him on his hand.
He said he was taken to hospital where he received 10 stitches to his wound.

Mkhize said when the dog attacked him, the owner did nothing to apprehend the creature but rather screamed out, "Oh God".

He said the dog owner did nothing to compensate him for his medical expenses.

“We are calling on the SAPS to take the necessary steps against those who have abused state employees through emotional intimidation and we will in future rally against those who appear before court for harsh judgements,” the memorandum reads.
Local police were not able to confirm charges or provide comment at the time of going to press.
