MAPHUMULO Local Municipality visited Sakhisizwe High School at Mthandeni area in Ward 7 as part of the Dress a Child to School and Edu-Tour Campaign on Wednesday, May 30.

The campaign was aimed at addressing social challenges facing pupils in schools, motivating them against undesirable activities and encouraging them to perform better in their studies.

Mayor Zibuyisile Khuzwayo-Dlamini gave a message of support and words of encouragement to the Grade 11 and 12 pupils.

“Education is the key to success and only with that key can you open doors in the corporate world. But it all begins here in school and your performance in school will determine your future.

“You are the future of our nation and through education we can fight the high poverty rate our country is facing. We all come from different families with different backgrounds and this is why we are here to lend a hand as the municipality to those who are less fortunate,” said Khuzwayo-Dlamini.

This campaign facilitated by Maphumulo Municipality Youth Development visited 12 schools from all around Maphumulo Local Municipality and donated Oxford English dictionaries, scientific calculators and school jerseys to the needy pupils to contribute towards improvement of matric results and overall academic performance in schools.

Other schools that the municipality visted included Kranskop High, Mbhekaphansi Secondary, Mehlomlungu Secondary, Sibanisezwe Secondary, Ekukhanyakwezwe Secondary, Zephania Secondary, Jonase secondary, Hlonono Secondary, Mqungeba Secondary, Amaphuphesizwe Secondary, Phezukomkhono Secondary and Sakhiziswe High Schools.
