BRANDON “Poppy” Naidoo and Dave Govender were ecstatic after being crowned Darnall Action Sporting Thunee League champions.

Six teams comprising of Govender and Naidoo, Roy Dhaver and Sagie Govender, Ron Reuben and Babs Pillay, Reagan Naicker and Vernon Pillay, Mack Naidoo and Clinton Naidoo, Preolen Pillay and China Naidoo contested the Darnall Action Sporting Thunee League.

Matches were played on a league basis (home and away) with 3 points awarded for an outright victory (3-0). Matches were contested over the best of three sets (comprising of 12 balls per set).

At the end of a mouth-watering action every weekend, three teams finished at the top of the log table boasting 25 wins and 10 losses from 25 league appearances. The calculators had to be brought out of the closet to determine the points aggregate (points for minus points against) of the top three finishers.

Govender and Naidoo were adjudged league champions with Roy Dhaver and Sagie Govender emerging runners-up and Ron Reuben and Babs Pillay securing a podium finish after finishing third. Favourites Reagan Naicker and Vernon Pillay had to settle for fourth spot after winning 11 matches and losing 14 from 25 league matches.

Prize-money of R10 000 and trophies was awarded to the top four finishers.

Co-ordinator of the Darnall Acttion Sporting Thunee League, Roy Dhaver thanked all teams for participating in the league and commended them on the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that prevailed at the league matches.

Dhaver was indebted to Reagan (R3 000), Babs (R2 000), Manjie (R2 000), Hilton (R2 000), Sagie ((R1 000) and Roy of Darnall Country Club (R1 000) for their generous sponsorship.
