New hockey club for North Coast

2016-02-03 06:00

THE North Coast Hockey Academy, which was launched two years ago, has succeeded since in attracting over 100 junior school children to intensive hockey coaching sessions, with children from all over the North Coast attending.
The Umhlali Hockey Club, which plays in the KZN men’s league, is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the province, and has been based at the grass pitch at Umhlali school for over 20 years.
In a much-anticipated merger, these two clubs have now joined forces to create a new club structure for hockey players on the North Coast that will provide affordable coaching and league hockey opportunities for players from the age of six to veterans. The club is called Umhlali Impis Hockey Club, and has sections for tots (U6), juniors (U7-U12), youth (U13-U14), and senior and masters sections for both men and women. The Impis will play both men’s and women’s league hockey with the KZN Hockey Association.
The club has signed a deal with Crawford College North Coast, and will be basing themselves on the new astroturf facility due to open at Crawford this month. The formation of the club is a huge step forward in providing a top class coaching and playing structure, on a world class astroturf surface.

Recruitment for additional members starts immediately, and all hockey players of all ages are welcome and can contact Blake Goosen at ibgoosen@craw for more information on rates and membership. There will be an Impis Hockey open day at Crawford North Coast on 21 February, where interested parents, children and players can bring a hockey stick and see what it is all about. Watch the press and the Umhlali Impis Facebook page for details. - Supplied.
