A 49 YEAR old woman appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping on Friday, November 9.

Thandiwe Masinga was remanded in custody until her next court appearance on November 14.

It is alleged that in May, the accused and her four accomplices went to a house in Bulwer Farm, in the Newark policing precinct, and accosted two males.

The men were allegedly assaulted with bush knives and wooden sticks and stabbed with spears. Lungisani Buthelezi (18) succumbed to his injuries while the second victim (20) managed to flee after sustaining serious injuries.

Cases of murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping were opened at Newark police station for investigation.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, police worked around the clock to find the suspects.

“Four men aged between 19 and 43 were arrested two months ago and taken to court where they were remanded in custody.

“Police investigations continued and it led to the arrest of Masinga, who had fled the area. The accused had suspected the victims of committing crimes in the area but no cases against the victims could be found. Acts of vigilantism will not be tolerated in this province and people are urged to report criminal activities to the police who will investigate and arrest the suspects,” Mbele said.
