TWO prisoners escaped from KwaDukuza SAPS custody on Sunday afternoon injuring a police officer during their escape.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Major Shooz Magudulela said cases of escaping from lawful custody and malicious damage to property are being investigated by the Kwa-Dukuza SAPS.

The two escapees - Snowy Maharaj (28) and Xolani Ngubane (25) – who were detained for robbery and theft – escaped through the roof of a storeroom after attacking a police officer, who was locking up after giving the prisoners food.

“It is alleged that yesterday at approximately 5pm, the prisoners attacked and overpowered a police officer in the cells while he was trying to lock up after feeding them,” said Magudulela.
He said the officer sustained bruises on the left arm.

Police have described the suspects as dangerous and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“No arrests have been made.
“Police are making an urgent appeal to anyone that can assist with any information regarding their whereabouts to contact KwaDukuza SAPS on 032 551 8229 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Magudulela.
