AS his final act as district mayor, Welcome Mdabe presented accolades at the iLembe staff recognition ceremony which was held at iLembe Auditorium to congratulate the work done by the staff recently.iLembe District Municipality congratulated its employees for their dedication and unity in pursuing the mission and vision of the organisation. Mdabe delivered his final speech during the inaugural iLembe District Municipality excellence awards ceremony. He spoke about the issue of change amongst the management and operations in the municipality and advised officials to prepare for change, accept it and remain professional.“What I am pleading for is that people must further their studies and always look for positive change. I will miss you all and would like to urge you to carry on with the struggle to your self-actualisation” Mdabe said.Municipal manager of the iLembe District Municipality Nonhlanhla Gamede, applauded the good work done by the employees and the guidance that was provided by the council. Gamede emphasised the importance of unity amongst employees, hard work and professionalism.Deputy mayor, at the time, Dolly Shandu took the podium and said: “The present council is not coming back next term so I am pleading with you to carry on with commitment, professional behavior and reliability.” She proceeded with her speech with teary eyes and concluded by thanking Mdabe for the skills he taught them as council.“Mdabe you have done a lot of changes in the community and in the municipality during your terms. Humble as you are, go well and remain as you are and God bless you,” she said.Officials and councillors received certificates and awards in different categories. Long serving employees were also recognised.Corporate Services received the award for best department and the department’s leader KG Khumalo received the award for best director. In the best teams within departments category emerged the planning team from the office of the municipal manager, the disaster management team from the corporate governance department, the expenditure management team in the finance department, the KwaDukuza Local Municipality team in the technical services department and the support services team in the corporate services department.
