KARATEKA from Shotokan Kokusai Karate Do South Africa (SKKSA) – Stanger Dojo - recently participated in the KZN Karate Development Championships at the Tongaat Sports Centre.
The purpose of this tournament was to select top athletes between white and purple belts to represent the province at national level.
Karate KZN (KKZN) hosted the highest pedigree of athletes all contesting for podium glory.

The event was well attended with the standard of competition being exceptional across all divisions and gave the audience an eyeful at every glance.

At the end of a karate championship the local dojo walked away with a total of 13 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals, achieved by karateka of Stanger Dojo, led by the instruction of Sensei Sherwin Hooblal.
Special mention must be made of avid karate star Advay Mahadeo, who achieved triple gold for kata, kumite and team (unison) kata.

These students will now form part of the provincial team that will represent KZN at the National All Styles, thereby achieving their KZN colours.
This event is endorsed by Karate South Africa and all provinces will be sporting their best karate athletes.

“My focus is developing my students to become well rounded individuals who engage in productive and positive efforts, their performance at this championship was brilliant and I am truly proud of them all,” said Hooblal.
