THE KZN Provincial Detective Task Team is appealing to members of the community to assist them with locating Ahmed Omarjee (33), a local businessman who is suspected of committing fraud.

KZN spokespokesperson, Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said the suspect resides at Dolphin Crescent, Blythedale, KwaDukuza and is wanted for several counts of fraud he allegedly committed.

“It is alleged that Omarjee approached the victims in the cases under the pretext that he had a tender to provide submersible water pumps and required investors to invest in the tender, which he claimed had been awarded to him by the municipality. It is alleged that the suspect produced a fraudulent letterhead from the municipality as a confirmation of his business opportunity.
“The complainants in these matters were then requested to invest large amounts of money, with the promise of high returns for their investments.
“It is alleged that the investors invested in the business deal as they were of the opinion that the business was authentic. The investors invested millions of rands with the suspect Omarjee, however he failed to pay the investors the promised returns and fled his home,” she said.

Gwala said charges of fraud were opened at KwaDukuza and Sydenham SAPS and a warrant of arrest has been issued. She said Omarjee has also been red flagged by Interpol.

“On 15 October 2015, it appears that the suspect Ahmed Omarjee had last exited South Africa through the Golela Border however, his movements are under investigation,” said Gwala.

She said anyone with information of the suspect’s whereabouts should contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant KM Reddy on 082 458 5630 or Lieutenant Colonel A Rajak on 031 325 4726 or 082 458 5570 or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.
