A TIP off from the community led to the SAPS iLembe Cluster Task Team apprehending two men who were in possession of explosives used in an ATM bombing at the Market Plaza complex on Saturday, September 9.

The swift action of the task team members led to the arrests of the two males who matched the description given.
One of them was found with an explosive device known as the ‘Shock Tube’ which the bomb unit from Durban identified as being used in mines.

According to KwaDukuza SAPS media liaison officer Warrant Officer Johannes Khoza any person who is found in possession of such explosives should have a “reasonable explanation”.

“The iLembe Task team intercepted two men who were in possession of dangerous explosives after receiving information from a member of the public and were believed to be planning to bomb an ATM,” said Khoza.

Khoza further applauded the community in coming forward with information that helped in closing in on criminals before the crime is committed.
The suspects remain in custody at the KwaDukuza police station.
