Teacher in double murder case denied bail

SCHOOL teacher Ntobeko Nkosi (36) appeared in the Kranskop Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 22 July, for allegedly killing two women in the area.

Nkosi was refused bail and the matter was remanded to 17 August 2016 for a formal bail application, KZN SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said.

The accused allegedly had a relationship with one of the victims, Ndukwende Secondary School pupil Khethiwe Xulu (25) whom he fathered a two-year-old child with, media reports stated.

According to Zwane, the suspect was visiting his girlfriend Khethiwe who was with her mother Ncamisile Xulu (50) at their home in the Ekwazini area in Kranskop, on 7 July 2016.

“It is alleged that the suspect shot and killed his girlfriend and her mother after an argument ensued.

“The suspect then fled the scene after the incident,” Zwane said.

He said Nkosi was arrested the following day in KwaDukuza and upon further investigation, police recovered a 9mm pistol in the Inanda area in Durban, which is believed to have been used to kill the two women.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing, Zwane said.

KZN MEC for Education Mthandeni Dlungwane condemned this incident when he visited the family of the victims last week, media reports stated.

Dlungwane said it is unfortunate that community members turn a blind eye to the issue of teachers having sexual relationships with pupils.
