Teachers complete ‘knowledge empowerment’ programme

THE SAPPI KwaDukuza Resource Centre implemented a programme in mathematics, natural science and technology materials development in practical and theoretical knowledge for Grade 4 to Grade 6 teachers.

The programme, sponsored by Anglo American Chairman’s Fund, began in February and finished with a final presentation.

According to a statement issued by the centre, Sappi­ Resource Centre worked with the Department of Education in the planning, implementing and evaluating the programme.

“Through the continual support of the chief education specialist Mr T. Buthelezi, Mr R. Rambrij, the project co-ordinator for the iLembe District and maths advisor Mrs L. Zondi and the outstanding facilitation of mathematics by Mrs M. Moonsamy and fornatural science and technology by Mrs. S Moodley,” the statement reads.

Mr R. Rambrij delivered the keynote address on policy implementation and its impact on meeting the targets of the National Developmental Plan.

Mr T. Buthelezi and Willie Naidoo, on behalf of the Department of Education KZN, expressed their gratitude to the Sappi KwaDukuza Resource Centre and Anglo American Chairman’s Fund for sponsoring the programme.

They thanked the teachers and principals for sacrificing their time so they could participate in the programme.

“I believe that the experience, content and conceptual knowledge gained from this programme will improve the teachers and help them achieve the targets set by the department,” Buthelezi said.

The teachers were awarded certificates of attendance for 50% and more.
In addition, the centre expressed its gratitude to Zelda Schwalbach­ from Sappi Ltd for organising power banks as gifts for the teachers.
